Everyone knows that good ideas can come from anywhere. And this month’s Ruck Club Callout came as a suggestion from Greg Williams, the leader of Blue Ridge Ruck Club in Sterling, VA. It pays homage to GORUCK's Special Forces heritage.
The Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) is a sub-unified command of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). JSOC partners the CIA with other covert units like the Army’s Delta Force, the Navy’s SEAL Team 6, the Air Force’s 24th Special Tactics Squadron, and the Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and 75th Ranger Regiment. Together, they are able to accomplish missions that could not have been done on their own.
Welcome to the Joint Operations Ruck. Service projects have long been part of GORUCK’s guiding principles, and we’re tapping into that history with this callout, but with one small change: you must team up with one or more Ruck Clubs to help your community.
That’s your mission. Partner up with one or more Ruck Clubs, pick a charity or organization that helps others, then decide on a service project to work on together.
If you have more than one Ruck Club in your town, figure out a day that works for all clubs involved and get after it together as one big team. If you’re the only Ruck Club in your area, pick a club from Sandlot or the Quick Lookup Club Directory and coordinate your efforts remotely (even better if you can schedule your project on the same day).
A few idea idea starters:
Add mileage where it makes sense. For food drives, it's natural for everyone to carry the items to their destination (just make sure they are packed in a way that canned or boxed goods don’t arrive damaged.) For other projects, you might prefer to add 2-3 miles before or after to a ruckoff at a local watering hole. Have fun, put in the work, and do some good! High fives and frosty beverages afterward!
